AI—F gets reweaponized with a three-track EP of sharpened frequencies and urgent themes. ‘Body Portal Zero Day’ shines a black light on cyber warfare as it is waged today and will be waged in the future. As Putin’s war in Ukraine rages on with guns, artillery, and missiles, a more silent war is being fought by international and decentralized hacker groups who align themselves with either side.
‘Kyivan Shape Shifter’ sets the mood with a metallic drone, crunchy static, and echoing rubbery synths that define the edges of the virtual space we’re thrown into. The tense, half-time beat drags us through this space first slowly, then faster until multiple melodies clash with conversations that culminate in a paranoid climax.
‘HFH’ is faster and meaner, revolving around an arpeggiated synth lead that plays across an unusual 7/4 rhythmic structure. While the relentless beat propels the track forward, the piercing feedback and discordant oscillating synths dial the tension up and down without warning.
‘Prurient Worm’ is the most restrained of the three tracks, taking its time to build its narrative across the 7 and a half minute running time. While there’s indisputable physicality and worldliness to its sounds, the overall feeling is one of being locked in a vast alien space.
